All wheel drive - check
sports car - check
designed by an Italian - check
looks weird - check
All it needs is a manual swap.
Those side windows. O.O

I actually found a step by step guide to swap one of these to a manual transmission a little while ago and bookmarked it. There was also one for sale on the local CL that had a manual swap already. Heck, smallcar actually sells a conversion kit for it:

Could you post a link to that guide? I'd be interested in having it.
Here's a snow covered SVX I found in a parking lot yesterday for your trouble.

Could you uncheck the 'Sports car'? 'GT' would be a more proper definition as far as I'm concerned, even with a manual transmission. Great looker though!

Here you go! It took a little digging since my computer I brought to work doesn't have it bookmarked.

You've reignited my love for the SVX, to the craigslist!

I've been a fan of these cars for the past ten years, and have owned a few of them since 2005. (12?13? of them... I lose track.) I helped run a shop that did a ton of work on these cars specifically, which was great fun while it lasted. I can honestly say that the SVX turns heads wherever it goes, and gets a lot of weird looks (and compliments). Do not be misled by the cheap step in price for a mediocre one. These SVXs can be relatively expensive and difficult to repair, especially if the car has been in a rusty climate. That being said, I love the SVX and plan to purchase another eventually (had to sell my last 1992 LS-L in Silver when I moved from NJ to CA).

Awesome! This SVX is on my way to every class, and I can't stop staring at it, wishing it was mine.

Funny thing is they're reallllly affordable nowadays. Like, I found one just now for 1200. Guy says it needs a new front diff (which could be anything but if it's what he says it is, that means new transmission is in order), which is basically a "Hey manual swap me now!" At the same time there's a really clean one for 2300. I really love these things, they are one of the cooler 90s bubble cars imo.

When I will be looking for a project in a few years, these will be on the top of the list. They are just the right blend of weird and cool, and you can't best that.
Earlier this week, I found one for sale that with 40000 miles for $25,000, so they aren't all cheap. That's a little too CP for me though.

I agree, the SVX is also kind of an acquired taste; my friend thinks they look like super-ford probes. That guy was probably out of his mind. I live in the northeast, and I've never seen one top $4,000. Then again while a lot of the ones I see are super clean, they have relatively high miles (100k +), but well maintained. I'm looking for something AWD and a project and I think manual swapping an SVX would be rad, I just need space and time which are at a premium right now haha.

I've always liked how the SVX looks. The first one I ever saw was a 1992 Claret sitting in a small garage parking lot. I was just getting into Subarus at the time, and had never heard of the SVX before that. Even without knowing what it was, I knew it was something special. They are quite striking in person.
I like the styling of pretty much every Subaru, but I'm a bit weird. In general, Subaru styling is an acquired taste.
I would love to get an SVX as a project, but as a college student, I don't have the time, space, or budget. After college, however...
Here I am thinking of options for a second car, and I don't even have my first. I definitely have my priorities straight.

Funnily enough I'm in a similar situation. I deferred my application from school so I could:
A. Save money for college as an "oh shit" cushion.
a.1. also buy a car that I wanted to drive, not something that was given to me.
I now have that car that I wanted to drive (1998 Mustang GT), but I'm now realizing how silly it is as a winter car, and where my college is it snows A LOT. And since I live so far away I'm going to try and make a case with the college to allow me a car, so having something that can handle snow would be a big deal.
Enter: Subaru Loyale Wagon/RX/SVX/BRAT, and Audi 200 Quattro Turbo.
I would love any of those as a project I get working in the spring as long as I can get them cheap. In my off year I've met a lot of people who know a lot about either brand and can even source me parts, so I'm in an interesting situation. I love the styling of older subies though.

That's a nice RX. It looks like it has an EJ22T. I believe the RX is even rarer than the SVX.
The XT is another lesser known Subaru, and is just as cool.

Oh god I love the Subaru XT
Whenever I tell people how much I love them they take one look at me and think I'm insane, mainly because of the Super Wedge™ styling and interior.
Subaru in general has to be one of my favorite brands outside of Ford (And Ford ONLY for the Mustang... and the Euro escorts and sierras.. and the aussie falcons..)
